West Felton Sewage Treatment Works

Colloide, working alongside Severn Trent and Mott MacDonald Bentley, played a pivotal role as a specialist M&E sub-contractor in delivering an advanced chemical dosing system at West Felton Sewage Treatment Works (STW). This collaborative effort reflects Severn Trent’s dedication to improving phosphorus removal processes in line with tighter environmental regulations, while showcasing Colloide’s expertise in sustainable water treatment solutions.

The system features a 2m³ Tank 1 Pump Ferric Sulphate dosing setup, designed to introduce ferric sulphate into the treatment process. This chemical reacts with phosphorus, forming an insoluble compound that can be easily separated from the water, preventing harmful discharge into rivers and streams. Phosphorus, a common pollutant in wastewater, presents a significant environmental risk if discharged untreated into natural water bodies. It contributes to eutrophication, a process that leads to excessive algae growth and severely impacts aquatic ecosystems. To address this, Colloide implemented a highly effective chemical dosing solution at West Felton STW.

This crucial work forms part of a £5 million investment project by Severn Trent. The project aims to ensure that West Felton STW continues to meet the demands of a growing population, while providing a reliable and resilient wastewater service to customers. Through key solutions and strategic collaboration, Colloide is proud to support Severn Trent in delivering sustainable environmental improvements and safeguarding the health of the region’s waterways.
