Severn Trent Water Limited
Colloide partnered with Severn Trent and JN Bentley to deliver a Chemical Dosing system at Worthen Sewage Treatment Works (STW), playing a critical role as the specialist M&E sub-contractor. This project highlights Severn Trent’s proactive approach to meeting stringent environmental regulations and reflects Colloide’s continued leadership in sustainable, forward-thinking water treatment solutions.
At the heart of the installation is a 2m³ Tank 2 Pump Ferric Sulphate dosing system, engineered to efficiently introduce ferric sulphate into the wastewater stream at Worthen Sewage Treatment Works. This chemical binds with phosphorus, forming a solid compound that can be readily removed, preventing nutrient-rich discharge from entering local waterways. Left untreated, phosphorus can severely disrupt aquatic ecosystems through eutrophication, spurring uncontrolled algae growth and degrading water quality. As part of Severn Trent Water’s wider investment in Shropshire’s wastewater infrastructure, Worthen Sewage Treatment Works has been upgraded to enhance environmental performance and ensure long-term resilience. Serving the rural community of Worthen, the site plays a key role in protecting local watercourses such as Worthen Brook and contributes to the utility’s broader strategy of reducing discharge events and improving water quality across the region.
